"Children stay in sport when they enjoy it, so every session starts with fun and ends with progress."
Every child is different. Some love the buzz of a team, others shine on their own in the pool or on the court. The right first sport is simply the one your child looks forward to all week.
Start with what they already enjoy at break time. Children who chase a ball at every chance often take to football or basketball, while children who love water or music and movement may light up in swimming or skating.

Book a free trial in two or three sports before choosing. Watch how your child talks about each one on the drive home. That is usually the clearest answer you will get.
Age matters too. Under-7s do best with short, playful sessions in swimming, skating and multi-sport. From around 8, team tactics start to click, and sports like cricket, volleyball and badminton become a great fit.
Whatever they choose, a term in one sport is never wasted. The balance, coordination and confidence carry straight into the next one.
